Green Friday Initiatives and Campaigns 2023

The annual shopping frenzy known as Black Friday has long been associated with deep discounts, massive crowds, and a surge in consumer spending. However, this year, a growing movement is advocating for a more sustainable approach to the event, promoting eco-friendly alternatives that prioritise conscious consumption and environmental responsibility.

Several brands are taking a stand against the excessive consumption and environmental impact associated with Black Friday by offering greener alternatives.

So this week we’re donating our letter as a shout out to the brands that are putting sustainability first when it comes to the annual shopping event.

Rituals, a cosmetics brand, has adopted a sustainable approach to Black Friday by focusing on refill products and offering incentives for reducing waste. Their “Green Friday” campaign encourages customers to purchase refillable items, with every refill purchase contributing to tree planting and conservation efforts.

Patagonia is once again donating 100% of its Black Friday sales to environmental causes. This year, the company is partnering with the Regenerative Organic Alliance to support farmers who are practicing regenerative agriculture.

The North Face, a VF Company is offering a 30% discount on all of its recycled and sustainable products on Black Friday. The company is also committed to using recycled materials in 100% of its products by 2025.

EILEEN FISHERY is offering a 25% discount on all of its clothing made from organic cotton on Black Friday. The company is also committed to reducing its environmental impact by using recycled materials and sustainable manufacturing practices.

Allbirds is offering a 20% discount on all of its shoes made from recycled materials on Black Friday. The company is also committed to being carbon neutral by 2025.

VEJA is offering a 20% discount on all of its trainers made from recycled materials on Black Friday. The company is also committed to using fair trade materials and sustainable manufacturing practices.

tentree plants ten trees for every item sold on Black Friday.

Ella’s Kitchen is donating all profits from its online sales to rewilding charity Trees for Life during Black Friday.

Lucy and Yak donates half of its profits to the Fior di Loto Foundation, which supports education for underprivileged girls in India.

We just want to say a big thank you to these businesses and hundreds more for making a stand against the annual frenzied shopping buying event; we hope that Green Friday will be bigger and better in 2024 when more and more companies understand the need for a sustainable approach to consumerism.
